Life Lessons Learned Lessons behind – An Interview With Rnb Sensation Lorraine Reid

I grew up admiring the stunning vocals sensational artists like Lauryn Hill and Mariah Carey, trying to mimic their soulful songs as I sang in my room. After hearing the new album Lorraine Reid "Lessons Learned ", my ears were happier than he had been when Lauryn Hill was still making records. This 7-time Juno nominee and star soloist revolutionary that not only pours his heart on his album, which served as therapy, both the past and the inspiration for the future, but also shared the details behind his success as the current voice of R & B and soul with an edge. More importantly, the wise teacher, singer and songwriter offered some lessons of his own for all audiences to think.

[Liz Singer] Every time I listen to the lessons learned, which are becoming more in love with her incredible voice. When start singing? And when you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?

[Lorraine Reid] Wow … Well, my first public performance was at the Parents' Night in Junior Kindergarten … (I sang the "ABC", while my teacher played on the piano). I remember always singing in church and religious songs love as a child … I always had the ability to hear a melody or a letter, and be able to imitate the voice. I was obsessively in harmony with the songs in the radio or television commercial jingles, and has always been very easy for me to pick up such things. I think once the 'Whitney / Mariah was hit " I knew I wanted to pursue music as a career.

[Liz Singer] is really surprising that temperance was nominated for 7 Juno Awards, a feat that no other dance group has achieved to date. How was your experience with the lobby at their disposal to make the switch to a solo career?

[Lorraine Reid] I therefore further learning and growing – personally, verbally and emotionally – in my experience with the temperance of the group. Those years were the lessons shopping "I've had in my life to date. That said, it was never easy … just the opposite, at times, indeed. I mean, I was young when we started-about 17, even in high school – and quite naive the hard realities of the biz … But thankfully, because I was young, he was also still quite strong. It has taken me some time, several years ago – to lose everything and find myself again (still working on it) … and recording of this album was part of that process. The R & B was always there, the soul was always there, so the transition was not difficult at all. As for pursuing R & B career, I had no idea or not I sign this level again, but he knew that certain conditions be met before I would consider … the rest is history. Making this record I has helped to connect with my passion for music.

[Liz Singer] Since you have been involved in the world of education as a teacher, do you think their stay at the camp has influenced your musical career, in terms of providing content suitable for all ages, unlike many contemporary artists?

[Lorraine Reid] Definitely … I am well aware of the fact that my students to listen to my work … and teach all grades from kindergarten to grade 10, what age is no "safe". In general, I've never really been interested in supporting any material open connotations – I do not use it, [and] never produced.

[Liz Singer] lessons learned, an issue that you enjoy recording? What is your favorite to sing? And that will be most influential listeners?

[Lorraine Reid] Enjoyed recording of the majority: "No More" (vocal harder to deliver). Favorite to sing: "Do not come back." Most influential: I actually thought that "no time to throw stones" would be the most influential … I wrote it to say something about the state or our communities … but it turns out "How can I keep him," the first single, is striking a chord with many … that is a very personal song for me, and people are being inspired in many different ways by it.

[Liz Singer] Clearly, all the fans appreciate efforts made so bright on the lessons learned. What aspect of this project gives you the greatest sense of pride?

[Lorraine Reid] This album is really my baby. It was a multistep process, and do not take the short way with him, I'll tell you. This project is also a reflection of my "new voice, "I had to embrace and learn all over again. It is the first project I have been together [a] that I feel really represents me completely. not even listen to that criticism more, and for me to reach that comfort level with my own work? … which almost never happens … that means a lot to me.

[Liz Singer] I had the impression that the lessons learned is really about the ability of an individual to do so on their own; to move past fear and even more independent than before. I also felt a general attitude of optimism for the future, despite any pain he had suffered in the past. Was it his intention that the message of the album?

[Lorraine Reid] is quite striking. The last thing he wanted – and something the team was very concerned – it was for this to come across as another "All men are registered of dogs. It is true that she did not have much positive to say in the relationship department, lol … but I'm grateful for all the painful experiences that I never recovery … not only made me stronger, but inspired some real emotion in the study … and in this album. The optimism is very real sense, and I'm glad capture the emotions that I experienced, because I do not plan to stay there much longer! I can hardly wait to hear what my writing sounds like once again change the phasing.

[Liz Singer] How do you feel that your own past has influenced the content of the album? Do you think that last one is always very influential, or may forward and make a completely fresh start without looking back?

[Lorraine Reid] I do not think we can separate ourselves from what we are, I believe those who try end up living in denial and pain, and sometimes we sit and watch them on TV reality … I think all we are a mosaic of our previous thoughts, choices and experiences, and I thank God for that. I am so thankful to God for the opportunities I've been blessed with so far in my life.

[Liz Singer] How have career transitions and difficulties with his health, his surgery nodules, inspiration for this album? How have these challenges in their attitude towards life?

[Lorraine Reid] I had surgery for vocal nodules in the fall of 2005, and this album was recorded my voice once and found new formation my new sound … I'm still getting used to this new voice. I try to take each day to day and I feel very humbled when it comes to my voice … always have been.

[Liz Singer] In general, what would you like listeners to hear more of your record? What is the main message I want to send all their fans who will listen to the lessons learned and fall in love with the beautiful melodies and songs of influence?

[Lorraine Reid] The main message I want to share is that they matter where we are in life, is important for us to keep it real. That may mean admitting truths that are embarrassing, or that appear vulnerable at times, but that is when we are more human. I'm still learning this lesson.

[Liz Singer] What artist or band Do you remember being influenced by a child? And how impressions affected you in adulthood?

[Lorraine Reid] Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey (in his "Vision of days Love"), Sam Cooke, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige … perfect combination of soul, texture, emotion and sand that I aspire to emulate.

[Liz Singer] Who are your favorite artists / bands? What are the last 3 CDs you listened to?

[Lorraine Reid] Favorites: depends on what day you ask me … today are Mary J. Blige, Jaheim, Alicia Keys, Sarah Vaughan, Tracy Chapman … I could go on and on … The last 3 CDs: Amy Winehouse's Back to Black, Two Chord Skankin LJX of '; Lauryn Hill The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

[Liz Singer] Regarding his personal life, how has music been balancing career and personal relationships? Was it a challenge to "do everything", while pursuing her dream of recording a solo album?

[Lorraine Reid] I am always challenged by the demands of my schedule and my desire to connect with the important people in my life. It was especially hard for me during the writing process of being emotionally available to others, because everything for me was living in the area, you know? Very cathartic, yes, but also very emotional tax. Besides, I essentially have two full time careers, so sometimes, even now, I'm going MIA – you know, to preserve my sanity … even sleep in ??!!!… and people do knows I'm on overload, because I do not much. My family, especially my mom is very understanding and supportive, my closest friend … They are the ones who truly 'get' me and respect what makes me who I am.

[Liz Singer] As an artist, what has been your greatest achievement? And in your life in general?

[Lorraine Reid] In my life in general, I think my biggest achievement has been to be a mentor and role model to others. As an educator, you really have no idea that you have inspired, and sometimes once you find out, is more than surprised! I am also very proud to say that I have two baby brothers … are 23 and 25, away from babies, but I like to say.

[Liz Singer] What are your main goals for the future? Do you see yourself recording more R & B records, or there are different plans in the works of his career?

[Lorraine Reid] I just want to sing … I'm not concerned enough with the commercial aspects of things, and although probably not very smart of me, is part my passion for acting. We have already begun to conceptualize and tracks the pen for the second album for the music is here to stay. I look forward to hearing how my sound will change as I gain more experience and maturity of writing as a vocalist. Plans for the future … well, I'm game for anything as long as I stay faithful to me …

[Liz Singer] As the album is clearly an inspiration for all aspiring artists honest, is there any other advice you would like to give others who want to follow in his footsteps? Is there anything you wish someone would have told you when I was starting as an artist? And in your life, what has been the most valuable lesson you learned?

[Lorraine Reid] Thank you, Liz. Life is one big classroom: some of us are pets the teacher, some of us are not popular, some of us get a lesson from the first time, every time some of us need to experience again, or pay more attention, some of us even try to go to remedial classes and still, nothing clicks … lol. But seriously, the most valuable lesson of all for me has been that in this journey called life, sometimes, if not careful, we may lose the lesson, which is different for each one of us. I wish I had known that before – Although I have no regrets. My advice to other aspiring artists is to take the time to find out what your life lesson is, the rest will fall into place.

You can wait to see the highly anticipated Lessons learned to be released this summer, and while you're waiting anxiously for that day, go see Reid live in the Michigan Reggae Festival next August. This follows his successful performance at the Montreal Reggae Festival July 12.
