Why is the quality of Lil Wayne’s lyrics better on guest performances than his own song?
For example, his lines “Life is such a f*ckin rollercoaster, then it drops, but what should I scream for, this is my theme park” on Forever by Drake. Compare that to “I’m a paraplegic, I parallel park” on Mr. Carter from Tha Carter III.
It’s sort of how Lil Wayne does better on his mix-tapes than his own songs, all he has to do is lay out a better verse. On Mr. Carter, he recorded that verse in his own studio without Jay-Z being present. That’s two different scenarios, if Lil Wayne were in the presence of Jay-Z he would have had been pressured to shine on Jay-Z.
Now guest appearances, all Lil Wayne does is tries to make the song better. It’s just like if you are in a competition, the last performance has the last impression, usually being the best. This is exactly how Eminem shined on Lil Wayne, everyone laid out their verses already.
